And these plastic rings curate large holes in the flags so that it can be drilled down for a stable grip and security.
Not only it repels sloppiness but also deters tears or flaming. As hanging flags are one of the most honorable and history long traditions for us, flying it in the ideal conduct is also necessary.

How to Hang a Flag on a Pole with Grommets
Here, I will be outlining the easiest process of hanging your flag on a pole using grommets from scratch. Check it out!
Step 1: Gather the Necessary Tools
First, you will need all the essentials to fly your flag ideally, such as a mounting pole, a rope, flagpole clip, snap hooks, and the flag you want.
Step 2: Attaching the Snap Hooks
The second thing you will be doing is to attach the snap hooks to the rope. In order to do that, you have to get your rope in hand, then determine the area where you want your snap hooks to be.
That’s also going to be determined by where your grommets are located on your flag. You might have a standard 3 foot by 5-foot flag where the snaps should be 3 feet apart to fit your grommets aptly.
Now, make a loop in your rope and slide it through the little swivel end of your snap hook. Then slip back through and just loop around the snap. Ensure making the loops tight so that it stays firm.
Once you are done, take the other side of the rope and make another loop. Get your snap hook, swivel in, slip the loop through, loop over the snap, and lastly, hold tight!
Step 3: Put the Snaps on the Grommets
Once you are done attaching the snap hooks to the rope, it’s time to put the snaps on the grommets.
Now all you have to do is to take the pole and use a flagpole clip to adhere to the grommet. Voila! You have the flag attached to your pole with grommets, and it’s all ready to be hung.
Some people avoid attaching the rope, whereas some like it that way. Because when you have your rope merged, you can easily change the position of your flag.
For instance, when it’s morning time, you can elevate it to flaunt or display it outside your residence. And when it’s dusk, you can lower the flag by pulling the rope downwards.
More importantly, in some localities hanging flags after dusk isn’t permissible. So, it will only be convenient if you consider attaching a rope. However, if you don’t, then buy a grommeted flag and follow the below hack!
Quick Hack
If you have a grommeted flag and attachment rings, then your work becomes exceedingly easy. You might be perplexed as to how it looks, but they have a very basic design.
You will need two mounting ring or attachment poles which have a simple thumbscrew in a protruded head.
Now, you have to detach both of the thumbscrews. Take your pole and slide the ring up to the bottom.
Then take another ring and here slide the ring through the pole where the end portion of your flag will be attached. You can also drag a line on your pole by keeping the flag side by side in order to match the measurements precisely.
Now once you are done, take the removed screws and your grommeted flag.
Attach the top portion of your flag grommet to the ring and fasten back the thumbscrew.
Repeat the same process with the end portion. Make sure it’s not too tight; otherwise, the rings might break. Also, your flag needs some room to fly free instead of being too stiff to move.
So, that was an easy hack if you don’t want any rope work to be done.
If You Don’t Have Any Grommeted Flag
Furthermore, if you don’t have any grommeted flag either, you can drill two holes equal to the inside circle of the grommet.
You can also use an X-Acto knife to cut an x within the traced circle center. Now take the male portion of your grommet and shove it across the hole made on your flag fabric.
Once you are done, take the female portion to secure it. Apply it on the top of the male grommet.
Use a setter or anvil to sandwich the male grommet to the female one (also known as a washer). Lastly, use a mallet to smack the two hardware pieces together. Repeat the process to the other hole, and your flag will be grommeted and all set to sway in the pole.

However, it’s totally fine if you have an ordinary pole and grommeted flag as following the above-mentioned steps, you can easily get the job done.
